Lightmapper Gets Stronger

Creating a robust lightmapper which can handle large worlds is no easy task, and I can report that the bulk of this work is now done. What remains are hundreds of little bits and pieces that either need to be discarded or added to the whole in their correct place. My own tests are good and I can give it pretty much any level and it rarely gets above 600MB of system memory usage for typical levels the size of the Concrete Jungle. Today I have been mainly contending with a crash report that happens on one machine right at the end, after a successful LM process. A very illusive bug that can only be reproduced on one machine so it's a case of sending version after version until the cause is known.

Half way through the day I received this holiday screen shot, which cheered me up and spurred me on.  Notice the lightmapping, a nice touch ;)

Going to walk the dog and then return to make another build. I have already made one for the internal testers, but will continue bouncing versions to find this mystery crash and of course do a few more tasks that I can do before my early night. Big (and final) meeting day on Tuesday but hopefully we will be cutting it to half a day which free up the second half for more testing and coding.  Getting there :)

    1. well as this is the biggest beta upgrade to date I would nt get so disappointed by the testing period.. of course I guess you need to understand the nature of the beast that is alpha/beta testing and I doubt very much if tgc is holding back on a working beta more likely they are fixing critical problems with all the added stuff that's gone into it... patience they say is a virtue, some got it some don't it seems lol. you and your son and every1 else has to just sit it out crying on here about money back and telling lee to stop working on a project and work on ours is childish and incorrect.. lee works hard getting reloaded ready and im sure the wait is worth it in the end so chillout.. softwares take time something your son is going to have to get used to and merry Christmas...

    2. I would just like to add one other point to echo what Lordalmighty1 wrote. Lee writes about his other project (AGK2) as he is proud of it; as he should be. Also, the fact that his other project is doing so well means a lot for Reloaded. It means more funds to help Reloaded grow. Without his other project, Reloaded would struggle to an extent and might actually take longer to complete as they wouldn't be able to outsource artists, software or other programmers to help speed up the process. I admit, this beta has been a long wait for everyone, but, it is also the largest update so far, so, it makes sense. I would rather wait for a more complete product than get something that I have report bugs about! Your son will be more than happy with the update and I am sure he will be making some great games within the coming weeks! Keep smiling, not much longer to wait now; Lee is a hard working, honest guy.
